How to take care of our handmade fabrics.
All our fabrics undergo repeated washing at both the yarn and fabric Stage. This ensures better dye penetration, removal of any yarn impurities and also pre-shrunk during finishing process to avoid any further shrinkage in the finished textiles.
Khadi Fabrics
Khadi fabric is lighter, softer with high breathability than machine made cotton. It has a textural beauty due to the handspun nature of the yarn. Khadi/ Cotton is a very strong fiber. With the right care, Khadi softens beautifully with age. Here's how to care for it:
• Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent.
• Avoid long soaking; wash colors separately at first.
• Dry in shade, never wring.
• Lay flat or hang in a ventilated space.
• Iron while damp for best results.
• Use medium heat (cotton Khadi) or low heat (silk Khadi)
• Store in muslin cloth, never plastic.
Raw Silk
Wild silk such as tussar, matka, Ketya, processed and spun by hand, is usually characterized by irregular yarns creating a "slubby" or highly textured fabric, Lustre and sheen. These silks tend to offer better sheen even after wash. It's naturally a strong fiber and crease resistant but repeated exposure to the direct sunlight will erode the fiber. It loses its strength when wet and therefore needs to be treated gently during laundering. Don't use deodorant or perfumes directly on your silk clothes since it tends to stain immediately.
Pro Tip: Silk is a protein fiber-it reacts to sweat, deodorants, and perfumes. Always air out after wearing and avoid direct contact with harsh chemicals. To preserve their beauty, silk fabrics require careful handling.
• Use cold water and a few drops of a mild, pH-neutral detergent.
• Do not soak for long-silk weakens when left in water.
• Wash gently without rubbing or wringing.
• Never wring or twist silk to remove water. Lay flat on a clean towel and roll to absorb moisture.
• Dry in shade, away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading. Avoid tumble dryers.
• Iron on low heat (silk setting) while still slightly damp. Place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric.
To store:
• Wrap in muslin, avoid plastic covers.
• Keep in a cool, dry place. Refold periodically to prevent permanent creases.
Natural Vegetable Dyed Fabrics
All natural dyed fabrics is prone to bleeding for the first few washes. Higher the saturation, higher the chances. Wash separately for the first few washes. Dark color may transfer to lighter colors, please wash dark colors separately. Should not be exposed to direct sunlight or any bright lights.
Pro Tip: Slight bleeding of color in the first few washes is natural-it's part of the charm of vegetable-dyed, ecofriendly fabrics. Wash gently and they will age beautifully.
Natural vegetable dyes create rich, earthy tones with minimal environmental impact. Since these dyes are less chemically fixed than synthetic ones, they need gentle handling to preserve their beauty.
• Hand wash separately in cold water using mild, pH neutral detergent.
• Avoid bleach, stain removers, or harsh soaps. Do not soak for long periods.
• Always dry in shade to prevent color fading.
• Avoid wringing-gently squeeze out water. Do not tumble dry.
• Iron on medium heat while fabric is slightly damp. Place a cotton cloth on top if ironing delicate weaves.
• Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Wrap in muslin or cotton fabric for breathability.
